About Me
I grew up and spent most of my life on Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada. As much as I love my home, I also love exploring and travelling; I've been to Europe, spent a semester of university abroad in Barbados, and have spent the past year studying at the University of McGill in Montreal. This coming autumn, I will be beginning medical school at Dalhousie University in Halifax. I've devoted a lot of my time to working with others, and I believe that a lot of what I do stems from a desire to help others and see them succeed. I have worked as a caregiver, a residence life advisor, a tutor, and have volunteered at several hospitals and senior care facilities. Outside of school and work, I enjoy cooking, reading, and keeping physically active. I have a close group of friends and family who I am very thankful for, and I'm always looking to meet new people and try new things.
I have had the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience tutoring and helping students throughout my education career. My interest in tutoring was sparked by my time as a peer helper in high school, where I was assigned to a classroom as a teacher's aide. I found that assisting students who were having trouble with schoolwork felt natural and rewarding. After high school, I attended the University of Prince Edward Island, where I graduated with a BSc degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Mathematics. During my time at UPEI, I worked for the university as a tutor to both high school and university students. I have four years of experience tutoring math, biology, chemistry, and physics. I am very comfortable with high school and first year university level courses in all of these areas, in addition to higher-level courses in biology and math. To be an effective tutor, I listen carefully to students in order to understand any difficulties they are having. Once I recognize problem areas, I am able to create lesson plans and communicate material in a clear manner, tailoring to the unique learning style of the student. I truly enjoy being a tutor; the opportunity to work one-on-one with others, improve my interpersonal communication skills, and feel as though I am helping someone all makes for a unique and rewarding job.

While attending UPEI, I worked for the university as a tutor to both high school and university students. I have four years of experience tutoring primarily math and science. Since leaving UPEI, I have continued to tutor through an online service, InstaEdu, and by volunteering at an after-school study club at Westmount High School.
