When I was 10 years old, my father bought me the book, "Mathematics Made Simple." From that book, I learned the basics of algebra, trigonometry, and, yes, even some calculus. But the most important lesson was that all of us can perform at a much higher level if given a chance.
As a math teacher and a swimming coach, I have always broadcast the simple philosophy, "You really can do it." A superhuman effort is not required. What is necessary is building a desire and a practical commitment.
