About Me

I am an outgoing, positive, patient and friendly person, scientist and teacher. I have over a decade of experience as a scientist which has included a variety of teaching roles and responsibilities. I enjoy enabling young people understand, appreciate and eventually master subjects that started out being difficult and challenging. I am deeply committed to patient and systematic one-on-one learning, because I personally learn best in that system. I am both easy going and disciplined at the same time, and strongly believe in the ability of each student to learn on their own with only simple guidance and reassurance from a teacher or tutor. Understanding a student's strengths and weaknesses is, therefore, critical to being a good tutor. My method is very conversational and less instructive so that each student is able to answer the questions posed, by themselves, with a little direction from the teacher. This method of learning helps students remember information and techniques better and longer because they are essentially teaching themselves. I love the subjects that I teach - English, Mathematics, and Science - and this comes through as confidence and patience in my approach.

As a person, I love being active, outdoors, adventurous and inquisitive. I love to travel, cook, chat with people about nature, and read.
