About Me
I have recently completed my Master of Science degree in Chemistry and am scheduled to defend my thesis in October. Throughout my research-based thesis, I was afforded the opportunity to be a teaching assistant in both undergraduate level courses and laboratories. This position enabled me to provide small groups of students (##-##) with basic and advanced skills in analytical, organic and inorganic chemistry laboratories. In addition, I was also able to conduct biweekly tutorials with large groups of students (###-###). In these tutorials, I guided students through complex problems and clarified concepts that students had difficulties grasping. This afforded me the ability to use creative methods including videos, hands-on demonstrations and interactive diagrams to illuminate ideas in chemistry that can, at times, overwhelm and confuse students.
Furthermore, I was also able to assist and guide several summer and honors-level undergraduate students in their research. This allowed me to work one-on-one with one or two students in order to complete short-term research projects. Through this work, I was able to introduce them to new equipment and analytical tools and utilize my synthetic knowledge to help them troubleshoot and problem solve. In this work, I stressed safety, critical thinking, patience and incorporation of chemistry coursework into their research.
It is my goal to combine my range of experience and educational background with my ability to be a positive, enthusiastic, passionate and encouraging tutor who will make a positive contribution to School Success. Please consider this letter and the attached curriculum vitae philosophy as an expression of my sincere interest in pursuing this teaching position. I am available to arrange an interview at your convenience and may be reached at (###)###-#### or #####@UOTTAWA.CA.
