About Me
I am writing you today concerning tutoring, specifically for those learning the English language. As an undergraduate student, I completed 15 credits in the English department. Had I opted to go on to Teachers’ College, these are enough undergraduate credits in order to teach the English language at a High School level. However, I preferred to go on to do graduate studies in Comparative History of Religion, a academic field in which I studied and wrote about the life and work of a rightfully famous scholar of English and Comparative Literature. The importance of Religious Studies in the life and work of some well-known English scholars is readily admitted; here one may think of Northrop Frye or Giles Gunn. In the life and work of the scholar who became my focus this was not so readily admitted and therefore part of my work involved beginning to make this case. For this reason, therefore, I needed to become more than just familiar with the history of English and Comparative Literature and criticism as well as the major recent interdisciplinary trends that continue to shape these fields. I completed the Ph.D. in ####. Subsequently, I have revised and published the results, entitling the work, 'Edward Said’s Rhetoric of the Secular' (London and New York: Bloomsbury, 2010). Previous to this, I have worked as an editor, the resulting work being 'The Next Step in Studying Religion' (London and New York: Bloomsbury, ####). I am currently awaiting the publication of an essay I was invited to contribute to the annual meetings of the American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) in 2008. Since this time I have written two new essays, a collection of aphorisms as well as a short story, all of which, once finalized, I will seek to publish through appropriate channels.
I must also highlight some of my teaching experience. At the University, I taught both World Religion introductory courses as well as a briefer course, on the same topics, intended for elite High School students. I have also worked as an Ambassador for the School of Graduate Studies, where I worked to help graduate students apply for awards; an integral part of this work involved reworking and editing their thesis plans for government funding agencies. In a related vein, it deserves to be noted that I have delivered more than two dozen talks at national as well as international conferences. After completing Postdoctoral Studies, I have subsequently worked in a variety of functions, namely for the government of Canada as well as within the Security Industry.
I am confident in my tutoring abilities since I have and will willingly continue to impart not only a love of learning and communication but also a love of the English language, harnessed in such a way as to create work both meaningful and original.
